Friedrich Knilli (1930–2022), Emeritus Prof. Dr., was a media researcher and author. From 1972 to 1998, Professor for General Literary Criticism with a focus on Media Studies, at the Technical University of Berlin. Main research areas: the image of Jews and the Holocaust in the media, film semiotics, radio play theory. Numerous publications, incl.: Das Hörspiel. Mittel and Möglichkeiten eines totalen Schallspiels (The Radio Play. Means and Possibilities of a Total Sound Play, Kohlhammer Verlag, 1961), “Auf Sozialisten, schließt die Reihen! Deutsches Arbeitertheater 1867–1918” (Rise up, So- cialists, Close Your Ranks, screenplay for television play, NDR television, 1970, Adolf Grimme Award), Ich war Jud Süß. Die Geschichte des Filmstars Ferdinand Marian (I Was Jud Süß. The Story of Film Star Ferdinand Marian, Henschel Verlag, 2000), and “Höllenfahrt – Profiteur der Arisierung: Josef Knilli in Graz” (Descent into Hell – Profiteer of Aryanization: Josef Knilli in Graz, radio play, Deutschlandfunk, 2018).
Lena Knilli, Mag. art., born in 1961, in Graz (Austria), visual artist, studied painting and experimental design at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (with Prof. Maria Lassnig). Her artistic work focuses on painting, drawn collage, and installation. Solo and group exhibitions in Austria and abroad.
Maria Knilli, born 1959 in Graz (Austria), author and film and theater director, graduate of the University for Television and Film (HFF Munich), guest lecturer (HFF Munich and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg), member of the German Film Academy and the German Academy of Performing Arts, two-time recipient of the German Film Award.
